Florida's islands activation is over

I have finished my island's activation. I didn't manage too many QSO's but I had a lot of fun working from beaches. I am also very glad that some OMs had possibility to get a new one IOTA!
Below you can find my statistics. In addition to them I have to mention that I drove almost 2,400 miles. It means 3.5 miles per QSO...
I want to say thanks to my wife, my friend Marek and his son Czarek who accompanied me during this trip. They supported me as much as they could. Especially they helped me to carry my equipment including very heavy battery.

Tomorrow (Oct 22) last day of my activation

Tomorrow (October 22) I will continue to QRV from Cedar Key (NA-076) on 15m (21.279) around 1600z and then I have to drive back to East coast of Florida. My nice adventure will be over. See you on air!

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Today again on 20m from Talbot around 2000z. Tomorrow NA-076 Cedar Key.

All logs already uploaded

It took a few bottles, not only beer :) but all logs have been uploaded. Please let me know if you QSO but you cannot find your callsign in the log. I could made mistakes retyping logs.

Logs till October 18th uploaded to Clublog

Unlucky Talbot

I planned to work about 2 hours from Talbot today (18 Oct). Unfortunately:
- I arrived there 1 hour later than wanted;
- I experienced strong splatter from contest station making my copy very difficult;
- after one hour of the activity W9xxx Jamboree station grabbed my frequency...;
I copied him 15db stronger than any station calling me;
- when I disassembled my antenna and rig heavy rain came.
Anyway a few dozens of QSOs have been executed.
I am going to drive to Talbot again tomorrow, on way to Cedar Key, so maybe I will be able to make some more QSOs. I do not know exact time yet and band as well. If my plan concretize I will announce it on this blog.
BTW - I still haven't uploaded all logs. They exist on paper and I don't have a time to retype them. Sorry but I will do it probably only after return home.

St. George - battery discharged...

Today I continued from George Is. When nice pile-up on 20m begun my battery stopped to work... I apologize all hams who tried to catch me then.
Tomorrow I plan to visit Little Talbot Island. See you from there!

From Okaloosa to St. George

Today's morning I worked 1.5 hours on 15m from Okaloosa executing almost 80 QSOs. This part of log hasn't been uploaded to Clublog yet.
Next I had to drive to St. George (NA-085) where I made, before sunshine, a few QSOs from the beach. Tomorrow (18 Oct) I will continue from St. George probably starting about 10:00 local time (1400z). Maybe on 10m if conditions are good.

Thursday, October 17, 2013

Within one hour I will be on 14.279 from NA-085

Tomorrow (17 Oct) one hour operation on 15m

Tomorrow I'm leaving Okaloosa and driving to St. George Island (NA-085) but on the morning (approx. 1330z) I will operate about one hour on 15m. Please try to catch me on 21.279 Mhz.
NA-142 log from today has been uploaded to Clublog.

Problem with rig/microphone...?

Almost no QSOs today. I was struggling with distortion issue. Nobody was able to copy me although my signal was quite strong (57/59 reports). Very few times I was copied correctly but most time I have reported strong distortion. Grounding was OK as it was in salt water. I have changed mics but it hadn't helped, however, for instance, DK8SV reported me that audio is OK. No idea what is wrong. I am very upset because I lost a few hours with no results. Tomorrow I have to leave Jekyll driving to NA-142.

Already in New York

Already in New York city. Very nervous but also very happy... This morning I couldn't find my old passport with US visa... You can imagine what it means...
Fortunately I found it so tomorrow afternoon I will fly to FL.

Operation from the beach

Like during my last year operation from Talbot and Clearwater I am going to operate daytime mainly from beaches. I will work SSB on 10, 15, 20 m bands using battery powered K3 and Buddipole vertical. This time I expect to use also a battery booster and hope to be able to work full 100W. If hotels' managements agree there will be possible to try to work digi modes on 40m. The main purpose of the trip is holidays so I will not be active more than a few hours a day.

Change of plans

Due to various reasons I had to change my previous plans. Instead of six islands I am going to activate only five. I will not visit Sanibel and Hutchinson however I added Cedar Key (NA-076). The most possible schedule is as follows:

NA-058 Jekyll (GA) - October 14-15
NA-142 Okaloosa (FL) - October 16-17
NA-085 St. George (FL) - October 17-18
NA-076 Cedar Key (FL) - October 20-22
